Artist Statement

Giuseppe Iarlori

When I was a little child my parents took me to London, one of the most exciting things they bring me was the Victoria & Albert Museum, I can still remember the feeling of surprise and glory that all that Art give to me, it was an inspiration that took me to study art history at college and then took me back to London to do several art courses. I have always been interested in greek and roman art and literature, so when come the opportunity to make my own art work for this competition for me it was natural to be inspired by ancient culture, but surprisingly I was so attracted by the Japanese rooms and the masks in there, I had to incorporete something of it in my work, so turn back in my mind one of my favourites books "Metamorphosis" by Ovidio, this is the inspiration of my work, combining the masks from the Japanese theatre and the ancient latin culture.
