When I saw the tomb doorway in the Chinese section of the V&A, I was immediately inspired by the contrast between the humble clay material used and the lavishness of it’s creation. The main focus of my piece was taken from sections of the repeated stamped pattern that runs all the way along the tomb doorway. This can be seen in the ‘tree’ like pieces that hang and shimmer from the main dome. I chose the scale of the earrings to reflect the opulence of the tomb and the status of the person who used to lie inside.
